1st day in Bonaire

Aloha all,

Today we woke up at 1 then went to the airport and got our suitcases and some of our board bags, but we are still missing three bags. After that we went to Jibe city and put our bags that we have here in a container at the beach, so we don't have to haul our gear from the house to the beach. With little day light left we tried to go fishing with hand line and a hook. We didn't do much fishing but we did hang out with the local fishermen and see what type of hooks, poles, and bait they were using. Now that I know what type of equipment and bait they are using, we are gonna go again tomorrow morning.

When we got the pier where we were gonna fish the first thing I noticed was schools of fish that looked like halalu, then I realized that there were papio and omilu all over. There were even some aku and small yellow fin ahi (tuna). We had the wrong hooks and bait for these fish, I was not expecting that there would be so much of these kind of fish right of this pier. I noticed that the locals were catching the oama with nets then using them for live bait to get the papio, yellow fin tuna and aku. When we went home I asked Greg if we could go fishing again in the morning, the only difference is that this time we will be a little more prepared. We are planning to wake up early and go do some throw netting to get the bait fish, halalu, then go hook them up live and let them swim along until a papio, aku or ahi bites.

I am actually pretty happy our gear is not hear for the first two days in Bonaire.

The wind has been pretty bad anyway as well.

Aloha until tomorrow,

Zane Kekoa Schweitzer
