Article Of Pietro

sorry this is alittle old, i forgot to publish it..

COMPETITION

The 'WATERMAN Trophy ended up to be assigned with a tie to Niccolò Porcella and Zane Schweitzer. Connor was right there and missed by a inch. Ashley didn't compete on Freestyle. The best local guy was Enrico Picciau 15 yrs from Cagliari.
Because of the lack of wind and waves we cancelled the kiteboarding and surfing competition, and we ended up using only the old original Windsurfer'one design'  ( I saved a few of the historical boards after the last Worlds in Sardinia). Actually there was a day of strong wind, but we already planned that day to go in Cagliari to assist the gimnastic exibition of Giulia, Gaia, Eleonora and Laura so we missed out wind and waves.
We ended up having only match-race and freestyle with the old Windsurfer long boards and also a funny unofficial tandem-race won by Connor and Laura
In the Match Races (one against one like the Americas Cup) Niccolò won clearly in the final against Zane Schweitzer. Connor Baxter ended up in third place.
In Freestyle we used the old Windsurfer rules that we used in the last four World Championship (Fiji '94, Wallangong '95, Cagliari '96, Perth '97) where we give point plus for well executed exercise and point minus for repetitions, partial falls and complete falls. Then we add also points at the end of the 3 minutes heat, for coreography and dismount.
Niccolò, Zane and Connor were a step ahead of the other six partecipants.
Zane won by 0,2 points in front of Niccolò and Connor because of less mistakes.
He was a flash-back to Matt early freestyle…I would like to compare some of those photos in Bahamas 1980….
Niccolò tried the hardest manouvres inside the boom, piroette and sitting on the board and holding the boom with his feet. Connor was the most creative with railrides, living wing (the rig detached) and showing his butt off while sailing.
For the 'waterman trophy' it was a tie between Niccolò and Zane.
Next year I want to repeat the experience with the three 'waterman events' in Sardinia all in May, back to back. Same format maybe some prize money.
For sure with the same great spirit and possibly the same great crew.
Aloha & Ciao.

    Hi Sweetheart,

Pretty hot on Maui these days. I have been to iron woods a few times with Shelby and Austin while they have been surfing and boogie boarding. I am the assigned videographer (and a bad one) This summer I plan to tape all of you then do a video. Waiting for you to be a part of it. Love and kisses
